The lighting concept concerns an imaginary subway station in a former industrial area. The design of the station reflects the current activity of the area, as cultural spaces are concentrated there, while at the same time there is significant street art activity. It is a thematic station aimed mainly at the young audience.
The proposed lighting installation promotes free expression through interaction with light.
The proposal is located in two areas of the station: the walls of each platform and the track area.
The walls behind the two facing platforms are made of exposed reinforced concrete, with each section of the wall capable of being covered by a projector connected to a screen that projects onto it. When all the projectors project material at the same time, they cover the entire wall with the mapping technique.
The central idea of the lighting installation is that each of the installed screens/terminals is interactive and allows the passengers/users to create their own graffiti which will be projected onto the opposite wall. In this way, there is a rotation in the presented exhibits, seeing each work in its genesis.
At the same time, LED lighting rails are placed on the station roof (above the height of the rails) which illuminate and add color to the train. The visual impression that the LED installation leaves on the observer is reminiscent of a photograph of a night cityscape taken with a slow shutter speed (flow of color and light).
The increase in the light intensity of the LED lights as well as their saturation is adjusted proportionally to the percentage of use of the interactive screens on the dock.
Passengers are able to spatially interact with the subway station through light. Light plays a dominantly entertaining and creative role because the passengers/users do not remain uninvolved but interact with it. The resulting result is different every time. In this way, the station acquires a special character, which interacts directly with the city, while it can also be a point of interest for the region.
