The property is located within the cohesive fabric in the city of the island, where the building is dense with the specific site adjacent to the northeast with a neighboring property with all its other sides free.
The goal of the design was the search for an architectural expression that resists the mechanistic application of morphoplastic limitations. The composition of the building’s massing is shaped by different geometries forming the faces, achieving the perimeter plasticity of the building. The intersection of the volumes creates the solid body of the building which is anchored to the core of the stairwell made of exposed concrete, transferring the movement from the basement to the roof.
The ground floor apartment benefits exclusively from access both to the east to the outdoor space from the indoor day areas and to the west through the bedrooms to a private enclosed small garden. The large openings on its facades contribute to the visual expansion of the interior to the exterior landscaped green and to the extroversion of the apartment, the privacy of which is ensured by the perimeter fencing of the solid wall and slats.
The floor apartment is organized on two levels with the first level and the attic. All spaces have access to terraces at different points of the facades and with different geometries. With the attic demarcated above the bedrooms, a double height is ensured in the common areas, which in combination with the metal construction in the south and the large openings in the northwest give different qualities to the whole apartment. A characteristic element of the view is the lattice enclosure that functions as sun protection without, however, obstructing the view from inside the residence. On the contrary, the large conservatory to the south, with a system of internal blinds, lets in the sun entering the winter season, allowing immediate profit.
On the main street, the curve that directs access to the entrance simultaneously enhances the sense of enclosure, while the composition of different materials (colored coatings, exposed concrete, metal structures, glazing) highlights the geometries of the volumes.
Finally, it was a priority for the building to be surrounded by dense vegetation, so the sections that are laid with cast material in the uncovered area are the necessary ones to ensure access to the interior.
