Pyxari

The concept was based on two factors, the location and the dual nature required by the operation of the store.

The place is located on the pedestrian street of Komi, one of the most secular beaches of Chios, at a distance from the center of the island. Its continuous operation both during the summer and winter months laid the foundations for the design of a changing environment. In order to emphasize this need for variability from a summer to a winter environment and vice versa, the visitor will be confronted with a clash of materials (eg floors), a difference in height which is bridged by an abstract ‘tree’ structure in the central pillar, the coexistence of conflicting elements (eg fireplace with decorations made of rattan and mats, reeded in continuity with visible masonry).

However, all these different textures and patterns come to be combined together harmoniously in order to compose a single environment, welcoming to the user. The goal was for the final result to be a minimal version of a traditional tavern that will welcome the visitor in its warm interior during the winter months while operating discreetly next to the sea during the summer. All structures and frames are custom-made.
